Prof Margot Finn

Margot Finn is the Astor Professor of British History at UCL. Her research and teaching focus on British and British colonial history from c. 1750 to c. 1914, particularly British imperialism in South Asia.

Margot has published articles on many aspects of the history of the East India Company, including studies of the family’s role in colonial expansion, analyses of loot and explorations of the impact of Asian material cultures on British country houses.

In the past decade she has co-edited three volumes of essays on themes relating to British imperialism: New Paths to Public Histories (2015), The East India Company at Home, 1750-1850 and Jeremy Bentham and Australia: Convicts, Utility and Empire (2022).
